MIXED REALITY (MR) IN THE FLOW OF WORK
How Do You Build a Cave Inside an Office?
It’s exciting watching companies like Spectar use AR so effectively, in my opinion, this is ‘learning in the flow of work’ at its best. A concept where learners easily and quickly access answers or short pieces of learning content, that helps them to do their jobs at the point of need.
Spectar is a cloud and software platform that converts BIM files from existing workflows (Revit, AutoCAD, Navis), stores and delivers them to a HoloLens application that enables field teams to see the models at 1:1 scale on the Jobsite.
Watch this short bite that shows how Donald Manuel, a Journeyman Carpenter at Martin Bros, used the HoloLens to build a cave for PUBG – an online multiplayer game that wanted to bring users into their game experience.
The Project?
Build a cave inside an office space
Why AR?
Spectar: “The cave was composed of complex geometric shapes, tricky elevations in a tight space, lots of material, and equipment in a small project area that would have increased the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Additionally, there were the ever-present challenges of staying on schedule and under budget.”
The Process?
1. Model the object in 3D
2. Upload the model to Spectar Cloud
3. Wear the HoloLens, and then watch in amazement as the 3D model gets transposed into the environment
Mixed Reality with the HoloLens is a fast process that is streamlining work in ways we have not seen before. It will be fascinating to see what Instructional Designers will do with these new technologies.
