Adobe Illustrator is Magic!
Enrich Your Course With Illustrations
Falls in nursing homes are a common cause of injury and death among residents, and failure to properly follow the safety guidelines
can result in injury and even fatalities.
Hoyer lifts are used for transfers when a person requires 90-100% assistance to get into and out of bed. In this project,
I needed a delivery format that would offer the caregiver just-in-time availability, simplicity, and relevant information, that would help minimize errors.
Pipeline for Developing a Job Aid
There at least five types of job aids out there, step by step job aids, form or worksheets, checklists, decision tables, and flow charts. No matter what type you select from, the following design tips will point you in the right direction when designing one.
Strict Content:
Keep text short and task centric.
Exclude “nice-to-know” titbits
of information.
Language:
Adopt everyday vernacular. Apply verbs
and action words generously. Use jargon
only if pertinent to the task and user.
Visual Elements:
Choose the appropriate format.
Use simple and clear drawings.
Be consistent in the style of visuals used.
How I Push creative boundaries with tools
When it comes to vector creation, Adobe Illustrator is my preferred choice, though it is hugely popular I must admit it’s undeniably expensive for some people. Thankfully, there are alternatives available for designers on a budget, and some of the best are available for free like Inkscape, Boxy, SVGVecteezy, Vectr, and Clker. If illustrating is not your thing, I have provided some link resources that can help you create quick artwork at a pro-level in Photoshop.
